Two-thirds of the world’s Christians will live in sub-Saharan Africa (42 percent) or Latin America (22 percent) by 2060, according to data from Pew Research. That’s up from 51 percent in 2015.
Europe is expected to see the biggest decline. In 2015, about a quarter (24 percent) of the world’s Christians lived in Europe. That could drop to 14 percent by 2060.
Pew based its projections on demographic data as well as population trends.
“This shift in the regional concentration of the global Christian population is being driven by a combination of demographic factors, including fertility, age and migration, as well as religious switching into and out of Christianity,” according to Pew Research.
